Bronze strips: properties, types and applications

Bronze is an alloy of copper, tin, and sometimes other metals. Bronze strips are widely used in various industries due to their unique properties. Let’s take a closer look at their types, characteristics, and applications.

Types of bronze strips

There are several types of bronze strips available in the market. Some of the most commonly used types are:

  • Phosphor bronze strips: These strips are made by combining copper with 0.5% to 11% of tin and 0.01% to 0.35% phosphorus. They have excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, and good electrical conductivity. They are commonly used in the manufacture of springs, electrical contacts, and various precision instruments.

  • Aluminum bronze strips: These strips are made by combining copper with 5% to 12% aluminum, along with other metals like iron, nickel, and manganese. They have high strength, good corrosion resistance, and are non-magnetic. They are commonly used in the manufacturing of marine hardware, chemical and petroleum equipment, and various machine parts.

  • Silicon bronze strips: These strips are made by combining copper with 2.8% to 4% silicon and smaller amounts of manganese, zinc, and tin. They have excellent corrosion resistance, high strength, and are easily weldable. They are commonly used in architectural applications, marine hardware, and electrical components.

  • Tin bronze strips: These strips are made by combining copper with 5% to 12% tin and sometimes other metals like zinc, lead, and phosphorus. They have good corrosion resistance, high ductility, and good machinability. They are commonly used in the manufacture of bearings, gears, and various machine parts.

Characteristics of bronze strips

Bronze strips have a number of desirable characteristics:

  • High strength: Bronze strips have high tensile strength, which makes them suitable for applications requiring high mechanical loads.

  • Good corrosion resistance: Bronze strips are highly resistant to corrosion, which makes them suitable for use in harsh environments.

  • Good electrical conductivity: Some types of bronze strips, such as phosphor bronze, have good electrical conductivity, making them suitable for use in electrical applications.

  • Good thermal conductivity: Bronze strips have good thermal conductivity, which makes them suitable for use in heat transfer applications.

Applications of bronze strips

Bronze strips are used in a variety of applications, including:

  • Electrical components: Bronze strips with good electrical conductivity are used in the manufacture of electrical contacts, springs, and other electrical components.

  • Bearings and gears: Tin bronze strips are commonly used in the manufacture of bearings and gears due to their good machinability and high ductility.

  • Marine hardware: Bronze strips with good corrosion resistance, such as aluminum and silicon bronze, are used in the manufacture of marine hardware.

  • Architectural applications: Silicon bronze strips are commonly used in architectural applications due to their excellent corrosion resistance and weldability.

CuSn4, CuSn6, CuSn8 strips

In addition to the above types of bronze strips, there are also strips made from CuSn4, CuSn6, and CuSn8 alloys. These strips have the following characteristics:

  • CuSn4 strips are made by combining copper with 4% tin. They have high strength, good corrosion resistance, and good machinability. They are commonly used in the manufacture of bearings and bushings.

  • CuSn6 strips are made by combining copper with 6% tin. They have high wear resistance, good corrosion resistance, and are easily machinable. They are commonly used in the manufacture of gears, bearings, and various machine parts.

  • CuSn8 strips are made by combining copper with 8% tin. They have high strength, good corrosion resistance, and good machinability.

In addition to copper strips, we also offer bronze strips made from alloys CuSn4, CuSn6, and CuSn8. These alloys are known for their excellent wear resistance and high strength, making them suitable for a wide range of applications.

Our bronze strips are manufactured using advanced technology and strict quality control measures to ensure the highest level of quality. We monitor the mechanical, electrical, and geometric properties of the strips, including tensile strength, elongation, conductivity, warp, and thickness variation.

We also closely monitor the chemical composition of the bronze to ensure its uniformity throughout the entire length of the strip, even for lengths of several kilometers.

Our bronze strips meet leading international standards, such as UNS, DIN, and EN. We also perform multi-stage, continuous quality control during the production process to ensure that our bronze is comparable to the products of the world’s leading manufacturers.

Our bronze strips are available in a variety of thicknesses and widths, ranging from 0.1 mm to 6 mm and 3 mm to 400 mm, respectively. We can supply coils with an outer diameter of up to 1400 mm and a weight of up to 1.5 tons.

At Special Materials company, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality copper and bronze strips that meet the needs of our customers. Our commitment to advanced technology, strict quality control, and adherence to international standards ensures that our products are of the highest quality and can be used in a wide range of applications.
